“As an active leadership consultant and author for the last four decades, I approached this book with a great deal of skepticism. What could another work purporting to advance communication and leadership offer a seasoned veteran? I was so wrong. Using an organizing principle from mechanical engineering, the ‘kinetic chain,’ Dr. Glover weaves a convincing, fascinating journey to connect physical, mental, and spiritual strength with the ability to lead. Kinected is different from the myriad books on leadership in many ways. Susan Glover has taken on this much-tackled subject, and with a combination of her own firsthand experiences as an ICU nurse manager and her careful, scholarly insight offering evidence-based data, Kinected connects on a personal and professional level.

Rather than a dry theoretical treatise, Glover offers very practical insights supported by her own candid struggles as a hospital leader in the toughest of circumstances. Particularly poignant is her vulnerable account and noteworthy insights as she lifted her ICU team to face the COVID pandemic with courage and skill. While hospital personnel around the globe were reeling from this scourge, morale among her staff was strong. How she was able to accomplish this will keep the reader engaged. Whether a new or accomplished leader, Kinected will provide a fresh and invaluable perspective not to be missed.”

—Peter A. Glaser, PhD

Kinected is a must-read for anyone interested in leadership that’s rooted in self-reflection and personal growth. As a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, I’ve witnessed the power of 'leading yourself first' firsthand. Dr. Glover’s personal and professional experiences make the principles discussed relatable. This book offers a practical and inspiring guide to doing just that. The actionable questions at the end of each chapter make Kinected a valuable resource that you can return to again and again. By working through the exercises, readers will be prepared to lead with a deeper sense of purpose, confidence, and trust, ultimately enabling their teams and organizations to achieve professional and personal success.”

—Marissa Leslie, MD, board-certified psychiatrist and physician executive

“Susan has masterfully shown us the importance of great leaders understanding the kinetic chain so they can develop other leaders by connecting with their physical, mental, and spiritual inner beings, I come from the health care industry, so I have a personal appreciation for optimal leadership in order to help individuals get past the four barriers to leadership effectiveness. While all four are important and real, I believe that the fourth barrier must be addressed, as without trust, a leader cannot be effective. This is a book that you must read if you wish to have complete success as a leader.”

—Barry Rassin, O.D., F.A.C.H.E., M.B.A., C. Dir., past Rotary International president (2018-2019)

“Dr. Glover effectively introduces the concept and power of kinetic chains and applies the concepts to both personal and organizational fitness, health, and success. She brings the ideas to life in engaging and practical ways. The book builds a compelling case that leaders, the team, and organizational health are connected and can be intentionally nurtured to achieve optimal success.”

—William G. Robertson, CEO of MultiCare Health System

“Susan’s profound knowledge of the human body and muscle synergy in the form of kinetic chains enables her readers to understand what ‘movement’ really means. It can be fluid, balanced, and efficient with self-mastery and a regimented practice. In her book, she brings profound insight of high-level business practices to reveal the synergistic values necessary for each leadership role, and explains how to optimize those practices and values for maximum performance. She brings a medical and athletic mindset of eliminating your weaknesses in leadership by understanding what is limiting your performance individually, collectively, mentally, and physically in the corporate arena.”

—Duane A. Clemons, CPT, endermotherapist, former NFL football player, and founder of Urbana Spine and Wellness Center
