The storied University of Connecticut’s national champion men’s and women’s basketball teams know well how to play hard and emerge victorious—and every now and then how to stand up again after a loss. 

So does Toni Boucher, a former legislator in their state, and a long-standing executive and UConn benefactor. In this intensely personal account of how to achieve business excellence, she lays out a formula for entrepreneurs at any stage to bet on themselves, again and again.

Boucher has coordinated seventeen political campaigns (and won fifteen). She and her late husband, Bud, have been involved in many startups and business innovations. These efforts required accepting risk and a strong belief in pursuit of a goal no matter what detractors may say. Bud and Boucher’s father, who brought his family to the United States when Toni was a girl, have been her inspiration. Despite a number of business failures, Toni and Bud never quit until they achieved success.

That fierce determination and the results of Bud’s final business gave Boucher the opportunity to name the Boucher Management & Entrepreneurship Department at the UConn School of Business in his honor. She still wants to support anyone on an entrepreneurial journey who is committed to educating themselves on the skills and work ethic that lead to the summit.
